Case Reviews

To make sure users follow the rules and harmful behavior is addressed, our Trust & Safety Teams built an end-to-end program to identify, review, decide, and take action on violations of our Community Guidelines.  

It starts with our detection systems using technology tools to alert us when something isn’t right. This could include advanced models, proactive detection tools, and our reporting features.  

When an account is flagged, it kicks off the review process. In some cases, automated systems will identify the violation and apply the appropriate action based on our policies. For everything else, cases are sent for human review.

During the review process, team members look at the account and any relevant information to confirm whether a violation occurred. For some items, the review will be as simple as looking at a single image; for others, where context is important, team members will try to understand the details and circumstances of the case before making a determination. 

When the review is finished, if a violation of our Community Guidelines has been confirmed, the appropriate action will be taken on the account. Users are notified of that action and then given the opportunity to appeal. 

Please know that privacy is very important to us. We do our best to balance our users' privacy with the need to ensure a safe and trustworthy experience for everyone. We keep this balance top of mind as we review flagged accounts.
